Statesmanship will present its annual Distinguished Christian
Statesman Award to Congressman Robert Aderholt of Alabama.
Congressman Aderholt is a long-time friend of Faith and Action and
played a significant role on behalf of the National Ten Commandments
Project. He has also appeared with Faith and Action President Rob
Schenck at public events and prays with Rev. Schenck often.
Rev. Schenck and Faith and Action Chief of Program Peggy Nienaber will
attend the Christian Statesmanship dinner this evening. Rev. Schenck
recently recalled fond memories of his connection with the Center for
Christian Statesmanship founder and renowned preacher, author and
theologian D. James Kennedy,

National Day of Prayer approaches
Prayer is the foundation of the moral fabric of our country because it is the communication of a deeply rooted faith in Christ
National Day of Prayer looms larger than ever
by Rev. Rob Schenck
If you’ve ever said, “I should go to a National Day of Prayer event,” this is the year to make sure you do.
After Federal Judge Barbara Crabb declared this venerable tradition “unconstitutional,” every court in the Land, including the Supreme Court, will be watching what Americans do in response. An overwhelming show of support will be–let’s say–helpful in shaping their thinking!
Here at Faith & Action we will mark this special day in several ways:
* On Monday of next week, Faith & Action will arrange for every member of congress to have hand-delivered to them a special National Day of Prayer packet that will include a facsimile of the deeply moving and inspirational 1863 call to Fasting, Prayer and Humiliation issued by President Abraham Lincoln.
* I will join with faith leaders from around the nation at the May Day event this Saturday in front of the Lincoln Memorial. This is a solemn day of repentance and recommitment to the Sovereignty of God over our land.
* By drawing attention to the impending observance throughout the days of the US Capitol Bible Reading Marathon on the West Terrace of the US Capitol. The public reading of God’s Word, non-stop for 90 hours–lays a solid foundation for prayer and intercession and awakens the conscience of our nation’s leaders.
* At dawn on the National Day of Prayer, a small group will go to the US Supreme Court to conduct the only National Day of Prayer observance held within the confines of the High Court.
* All day our Faith and Action chief of program, Peggy Nienabor, will assist in the coordination of National Day of Prayer events at the US Capitol complex.
* Later in the day I will address a National Day of Prayer event in Rockford, Illinois, where religious, civic and business leaders come together to pray.
You may have National Day of Prayer events in your community. If you don’t, pray about starting one! (If it’s too late for this year, you can take a small group–even if it’s just you and your family–to your city, county or state capital and hold a short prayer service on the sidewalk. The Supreme Court has ruled sidewalks as open forums. So long as you don’t block pedestrian traffic, you’re perfectly legal!
You can also sign on to our special Defend the National Day of Prayer facebook page and or / our legal brief (called and amicus–for the Latin word for “friend”) defending the continuation of the National Day of Prayer.
The National Day of Prayer is one important we we join together, linking hands all over the country, to minister to the soul and conscience of our American civilization!
President Files "Intent" to Appeal Day of Prayer Decision
Only days after a federal judge declared the National Day of Prayer “unconstitutional”, Rev. Rob Schenck and Rev. Pat Mahoney went to the White House and urged the President to mount a vigorous defense of this long-standing American tradition. Two days later 31 members of Congress held a Capitol Hill news conference to say the same thing to the White House. It appears Mr. Obama got the message.
The President has directed the Department of Justice to file a “Notice of Intent” to appeal the decision of federal district court judge Barbara Crabb. Judge Crabb said in her decision that the issuance of a presidential proclamation on the National Day of Prayer is an impermissible violation of the First Amendment prohibition against government establishment of religion. She also said calling for a National Day of Prayer is no different than the President practicing “rune magic.”
The “Notice of Intent” does not offer any details on how the President plans to defend the National Day of Prayer. Mr. Obama has made it clear, though, that he will issue a proclamation declaring May 6 National Day of Prayer because the judge said her order will not go into effect until all appeals have been exhausted.
Faith and Action will file its own legal brief in support of the National Day of Prayer. Citizens may add their names and votes of support for the National Day of Prayer at a new “Defend the National Day of Prayer” facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Defend-the-National-Day-of-Prayer/113264075374172?ref=ts .
Congress Mourns Polish President Lech Kaczynski
ROCKFORD, Ill., April 12 /Christian Newswire/ — World Congress of Families Managing Director Larry Jacobs expressed shock and sadness at the death of Polish President, Lech Kaczynski, who died Saturday in a plane crash on route to a ceremony commemorating the victims of the 1940 massacre of Polish officers in the Katyn Forest.
“President Kaczynski was one of the strongest pro-family leaders in Europe,” Jacobs commented. “Despite intense pressure from the European Union, he stood firm for the right to life. The late president also opposed the legalization of prostitution and the normalization of homosexuality.”
Even before he became president, Kaczynski was an outspoken defender of the family. As mayor of Warsaw, he twice blocked gay-pride parades.
President Kaczynski was a patron of World Congress of Families IV, which took place in Warsaw, May 11-13, 2007.
“We were honored by President Kaczynski’s support for our fourth World Congress,” said Jacobs. “In fact, the initial meeting of the International Planning Committee for the Warsaw Congress was held with his encouragement in the office of then-Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz.”
In a letter of support, read at the opening session of WCF IV, President Kaczynski declared, “I cordially welcome all of you assembled at the World Congress of Families IV…I accept with satisfaction the kind words of International Secretary of the Congress, Allan Carlson, about Poland as the bastion of strong faith and strong families in the increasingly laicizing Europe whose inhabitants are getting older.” Click here to read the full text of President Kaczynski’s letter to the World Congress of Families.
Jacobs observed: “Lech Kaczynski was a faithful servant of the Polish nation, a good friend of the World Congress of Families and a champion of the natural family. We join the people of Poland in mourning his passing.”

Rob Schenck Heads Evangelical Delegation in Meeting with Moroccan Ambassador

Rev. Rob Schenck (L) heads Evangelical delegation in meeting with Moroccan Ambassador Aziz Mekouar (C)
Faith and Action president Rev. Rob Schenck convened a delegation of Evangelical leaders that met last week with Ambassador Aziz Mekouar at the Embassy of Morocco in Washington. The group discussed its concerns with the Ambassador over recent deportations of foreign Christians from Morocco, including Americans, who had been working in the Islamic Kingdom in some cases for many years.
“I have enjoyed a close friendship of several years with the Ambassador,” said Rev. Schenck. “I went to see him immediately following these unfortunate events, and he readily accepted my proposal for an open and frank discussion. Our group met with him for nearly two hours, an extraordinary length of time for a high-level diplomat. I’m very grateful for the unusual attention he gave to us and his candor in answering our sometimes tough questions.”
Ambassador Mekouar also sat for additional hour to be interviewed on the situation by Jamie Dean, a journalist with the Evangelical biweekly, WORLD Magazine.
During the last several years Rev. Schenck has participated in formal and informal exchanges between American Evangelical leaders and Moroccan Islamic leaders. One of Faith and Action’s trustees, the Reverend
