Our Program Focus
Faith and Action accomplishes its mission through building personal relationships with individuals serving in government, engaging in private and public conversation and debate, distributing Scripture and informative materials and staging special events such as panel discussions, symposia, news conferences, seminars and prayer, worship and preaching services. We also use the media, electronic communications, the Internet and the pulpit to disseminate our message. Faith and Action believes in and works hard to build strong alliances with all like-minded individuals, groups, religious communities, churches, organizations and institutions.
The following are some on the ongoing projects of Faith and Action in the Nation’s Capital:
Annual National Conference for the Pre-born and Their Mothers and Fathers
This unique conference is the only pro-life prayer and preaching service held each year within the US Capitol Complex. Held on the anniversary of the infamous Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision which legalized abortion on demand in America, the National Conference for the Pre-born gathers hundreds of religious and political leaders, pro-life activists, and people of faith into the US Capitol to let their voices be heard in support of the sanctity and dignity of human life.
Alpha on the Hill: Alpha is an outreach Bible study and discussion group to our national policy makers and their staffs. The group meets every Tuesday at the Faith and Action National Ministry Center across the street from the US Supreme Court. Each gathering includes times of socializing as well as honest and open conversation about the place of faith in our personal lives. While we carefully guard the privacy of those attending, we can say that many of our nation’s leaders have been positively impacted by the Alpha meetings at Faith and Action. This year we again anticipate members of the legislative, judicial and executive branches of our government as well as members of their staffs discovering personal faith in Jesus Christ through Alpha on the Hill.
Annual Bible Reading Marathon: A unique outreach on Capitol Hill, the Annual Bible Reading Marathon brings together members of congress, civic and religious leaders, and people of faith from across the nation to read aloud the entirety of the Bible on the West Lawn of the US Capitol. Each May, this celebration of God’s word begins on a Sunday evening and culminates on the National Day of Prayer.
As the sound of Holy Scripture reverberates around the Capitol Building, this powerful witness rests on the promise that God’s Word does not return to him void but accomplishes the purpose for which He sent it.
National Day of Prayer at US Supreme Court: Every year on the National Day of Prayer, the missionary team at Faith and Action leads the ONLY public prayer service held on the grounds of the US Supreme Court. Historically, it was illegal to pray on the steps of the highest court in America, but Faith and Action Lead Missionary, Rob Schenck, along with Faith and Action ally, Rev. Pat Mahoney of the Christian Defense Coalition, challenged the prayer prohibition and prevailed.
Now, on the National Day of Prayer, pastors gather with Faith and Action to pray for the Justice. We ask that God’s grace and wisdom will guide them in their deliberations and the decisions they make.
Operation Nativity and Live Nativity at US Supreme Court: Every November, Faith and Action stages the only Live Nativity scene to process in front of the US Supreme Court. Our purpose is two-fold: First, we want to publicly bear witness on Capitol Hill to the Truth that Christmas is the celebration of the Incarnation of Jesus Christ – God becoming flesh and dwelling among us; secondly, Operation Nativity serves to remind people of faith across that nation that if we can stage a creche or nativity scene in front of the highest court in the land, they can also stage nativities in front of government of public buildings in their own communities.
For too long, secularist organizations like the ACLU have bullied civic leaders into believing that ANY public display of faith is a violation of the concept of the separation of church and state. We are here to remind all that any private individual or organization, by securing the proper permits, can erect a Christmas display that will bear witness to Christ and the miracle of His birth.
The Ten Commandments Project: Faith and Action often presents members of congress with beautiful replicas of the Ten Commandments. In fact, to date Faith and Action has made over 400 Ten Commandments presentations. Each time, as we present the congressman or congresswoman the tablets we challenge them to, “Display them and obey them.”
By presenting our public policy makers with the Ten Commandments, we remind them they are accountable to a higher law that transcends human laws and regulations and that all of our constitutional rights are, in fact, derived from the inalienable rights granted to us by God, our Creator.
Personal ministry visits with top government officials: Often, Faith and Action lead missionary Rob Schenck is often called upon to pray with or provide spiritual counsel to some of our nation’s leading public figures. Because of the need for complete trust and discretion in those relationships, we do not discuss them publicly. Please pray that God will continue to open the unprecedented doors of access and ministry opportunity we currently enjoy on Capitol Hill.
Other standing projects of Faith and Action include Keeping CHRIST-mas at the US Capitol; Rob Schenck’s ongoing pulpit ministry – motivating and mobilizing God’s people to pray for our nation and its elected and appointed leaders; and the National Prayer Network which includes distributing the Faith and Action Capital Prayer Guides across the nation.
