We appreciate the unique and critically important role that law enforcement officers play in keeping our nation and its capital city safe.
For over ten years, I have presided over this important event as the first woman president of the Capitol Forum Club presenting the Annual U.S. Capitol Police Officer of the Year Award to chosen officers, given inside the U.S. Capitol.
This year’s event was particularly special as we honored two officers who jumped into action when a gunman started shooting at the Congressional baseball practice this summer – saving many lives and helping Congressman Scalise and others wounded. As a prominent presence within the Capitol Complex, these fine officers demonstrate core values: Professionalism – Pride – Effectiveness.
We are immensely grateful for the U.S. Capitol Police officers, Special Agents David J. Bailey and Crystal J. Griner, officers of the Protective Services Bureau, and the Dignitary Protection Division.
Their bravery, compassion, and skilled training saved lives – something that will never be forgotten.
The awards were given yesterday morning at a special breakfast ceremony in the historic Mansfield Room in the U.S. Capitol. The ceremony was emotionally laced with personal testimonies from those who had been wounded – sharing how their faith saw them through and expressing their sincere appreciation to Special Agents David J. Bailey and Crystal J. Griner for their selfless actions that rescued so many.
The USCP Chief of Police Matthew R. Verderosa, the Senate Sergeant at Arms Frank J. Larkin, the House Sergeant at Arms Paul D. Irving, the Architect of the Capitol Stephen T. Ayers, fellow police officers and congressional members were in attendance.
Congressman Roger Williams (R – TX) shared his own emotional story and quoted Luke 6:38 and ended his remarks with Will Rogers famous line, “Don’t look back, we ain’t going that way.”
The breakfast was filled with stories of faith and showed just how connected we all are to one another. Throughout all the years I have presided over this event, I have never been so emotionally moved as I was yesterday. Faith & Action alongside allied ministries provided special edition bibles honoring those who served and sacrificed.
Join with us in prayer and thanksgiving for these courageous officers and all those in law enforcement who put their lives on the line daily to keep us protected.
On Behalf of Your Faith & Action Ministry Team,
